Government reviews water bills for renters
New proposals regarding water bills could benefit UK landlords.
Under the new guidelines Federation proprietors would not have to share information on tenancy changes and they would no longer be liable for their tenant’s debts.
The current Flood and Water Management Act states landlords maybe made to pay bills if occupier details are not passed on; a non regulatory approach is now being considered.
Ian Fletcher, Director of Policy at the British Property Federation said: "Government policy in other areas is pushing for personal responsibility and the same should apply here that landlords should not be held liable for their tenants' debts."
He added the organisation agrees that more could be done by water providers in order to reduce the impact of bad debts.
